Feeling worse when you experience certain emotions coming in, or feeling like you’re trying to anesthetize those emotions you’re trying to suppress, or overwhelmed when you need comfort and support, means that, like many of us, you haven’t learned healthy self-soothing. That’s all you know. You may say, think, or do something to exacerbate these emotions. Or, you gain temporary relief, but end up procrastinating and distracting in an unhealthy way.
